Iowa Initiative for Sustainable Communities in Burlington, IA

The Iowa Initiative for Sustainable Communities (IISC) is part of the core curriculum for second year students in the University of Iowa's School of Urban and Regional Planning graduate program.  IISC’s purpose is to enhance the capacity of towns, cities, and counties in Iowa, as well as elsewhere in the Midwest, to better become sustainable communities.  Students work in groups of five or six with an organization in one Iowa community.  They take the skills and knowledge gained throughout their graduate education and apply them to the community to develop sustainability plans and initiatives.   The Burlington Team consists of five second year University of Iowa Urban and Regional Planning graduate students who have chosen to work for Downtown Partners, Inc. in Burlington, Iowa for the duration of the 2010-2011 academic year.
